Thea backups

Thea backups keeps private, encrypted backups of Thea, a personal assistant that runs on its owner's own server, in that owner's own Google Drive.

What it does

Every night, Thea's server makes a backup of its own database: the assistant's memory and its conversation with its owner. The backup is encrypted on the server before it leaves, then uploaded to one folder, "Thea backups", in the owner's Google Drive. Once a month the server restores the latest backup into a scratch database to check that it can be read back.

Who uses it

Thea backups is a private tool. It has one user, the person who runs Thea, and it only ever signs in to that person's own Google account. It is not offered to the public and has no sign-up.

What it can access

It asks Google for the drive.file permission only: it can see and change the files it created itself, and nothing else in the Drive. It cannot read the owner's other files, email or contacts.
